The latest version of standalone LoadRunner (12.0) was released by HP on March 17th. With this latest release comes some significant changes over the prior 11.52 release, but not the wholesale type of changes that were present when upgrading from 11 to 11.50. If you’re wondering whether or not it makes sense to leap to version 12.0, I’ll try to highlight some main points of the release in this blog article as well as give you some initial snapshots at the interface.

Loadrunner is designed to support a vast selection of applications. This means developers can test a variety of applications such as mobile, Ajax, Flex, HTML 5,.NET, Java, GWT, Silverlight, SOAP, Citrix, ERP, and legacy to name a few. Testing mobile applications is a breeze. With Loadrunner, users can gauge all aspects of mobile application. Click the download button to download Loadrunner latest version for free. One of the first things I noticed about this release was the change in licensing structure/naming. Version 12.0 is now called a “Community” edition and as such comes with a new permanent bundle of 50 Vusers. This means you can run up to 50 concurrent users through the Controller without any license expiration, and includes all protocols except GUI and COM/DCOM. It is nice to see HP come on board, as other tool vendors such as SOASTA had already allowed this same type of permanent trial for a small number of Vusers. After a successful installation, you should see the following under the LoadRunner License Utility:

Another feature HP put time into with this release was the emphasis to improve the installation process. Regarding this front, HP now gives the ability for a non-admin user account to install all LoadRunner components. This is nice especially given the increased difficulty in obtaining local admin rights within corporate organizations. Secondarily, HP has simplified the product installation, with a shorter overall install time (YEAH!).

July 19, 2014 by NaveenKumar Namachivayam HP has released its latest version of LoadRunner. It is a minor version: LoadRunner 12.01. The important feature of this release is HP LoadRunner 12.01 supports HP Cloud solution called HP Helion.

With such a big emphasis on the Cloud in IT, it made sense for HP to now support load generators in the Cloud. You are able to provision these generators directly from the Controller interface. The only catch here is that it is only supported from the Amazon EC2 Cloud. When opening the Load Generators window from the Controller, you’ll see the “Add from Cloud” option here:

HP also made some subtle changes to the Virtual User Generator within this version 12.0 release. They have incorporated an enhanced replay summary with transaction breakdown. This feature needs to be enabled (is not on by default) by going to Tools…Options…Scripting…Replay and checking “Collect Replay Statistics.”

Enhanced Replay

HP has also added support for editing common file types in the VuGen editor. I was able to open a text file in the editor and make changes and save the file back off successfully. Another nice usability change HP made was adding the ability to cancel a recording without overwriting the existing script. Too many times I’ve been working in a script and ran into issues during recording and have had to back out, thus losing the initial script that was there.

Along with this release, there are a number of performance improvements with the Virtual User Generator. Konica minolta c253 driver mac os x. The one they highlight within the Readme is the ability to disable snapshots which leads to better performance. From early testing, it seems debatable whether performance has actually improved over the previous 11.52 version.

There were also a number of protocol enhancements that were made within this release (listing below this paragraph). The TruClient to Web (HTTP/HTML) protocol script converter caught my attention. I recorded a simple AJAX TruClient script (navigating to 3 web pages) and tried to convert the script to the standard Web protocol. The results were not initially promising as the main initial URL call was converted but the other two navigations were not. I’ll need to research more on this functionality.

LoadRunner 12 Protocol Enhancements (abbreviated list)

  • Web Protocol Enhancements
    • HTML5 WebSocket support
    • TruClient to Web (HTTP/HTML) protocol script converter
    • IE 11, Chrome version 30, Firefox version 23 support
    • Enhanced asynchronous support with ResponseHeader callback

As always, I usually recommend with the first big major version release of LoadRunner to wait until the first patch version comes out before migrating into a Production environment.
